Should I make a new Google Business Profile after a suspension?

By Daniel Debattista · Updated 6 November 2026

No. It's the most tempting shortcut and the one most likely to make things worse. Here's why, in plain English.

Google says not to

Google's appeals page is direct about it: don't create a new Business Profile for the same business. Its guidelines also say one profile per business location, whether in one account or several. A second listing for the same business breaks that rule, even if the first one is suspended.

Why it backfires

  • It doesn't fix the cause. Whatever got the first profile suspended, like an address problem or extra words in the name, is still there. The new one is likely to run into the same problem.
  • It adds a second problem. Now there are two profiles for one business, which is against the rules on its own.
  • Your reviews stay behind. Reviews belong to the profile, not to you. A fresh listing starts at zero.
  • If your Google account is restricted, you can't anyway. A restricted account can't create or claim profiles until the restriction is lifted.

What about when I've moved or renamed the business?

Same answer: update the profile you have. Google says not to create a new profile because of a change in location or ownership. When you move and keep the same name, Google moves your reviews to the new address. A small name change doesn't affect reviews. A bigger rebrand can be treated as a new business, so if you're changing your name completely, get it right before you edit.

If you already made a second profile after a move, Google's help page says to contact Google about moving the reviews across, rather than keeping both.

What to do instead

  1. Find out why the original profile was suspended.
  2. Fix it on the profile and on your website.
  3. Gather documents that show your business name and address.
  4. Appeal the original profile, once. See what to do first after a suspension for the full order.
